How a logo goes onto hi-vis workwear

Hi-vis garments are certified as a system: the fluorescent background fabric and the retroreflective tape both count toward the ANSI/ISEA 107-2020 area minimums. Embroidery or print goes on the background fabric only. Stitching through reflective tape removes reflective area and voids the garment's class rating, so placement is planned around the tape, not over it.

Class 2 or Class 3 — how crews decide

The class is set by how much background and retroreflective material the garment carries, and it is chosen by the working environment rather than by preference. Class 2 covers work where traffic moves at moderate speed or where the worker is close to equipment but visible from a distance — utility service, parking areas, warehouse yards, survey crews. Class 3 adds sleeve coverage and more reflective area for full-body definition at higher speeds and in poor light: highway work, night shifts, incident response.

Two things crews get wrong. First, a vest layered over a non-certified shirt is only as compliant as the vest itself — the shirt underneath does not add class. Second, a garment that has lost reflective area to a patch, a logo stitched over tape, or heavy wear is no longer performing at its rated class, which is why placement is planned around the tape from the start.
